Life coaching for neurodiversity
People who are neurodivergent often experience challenges with everyday life as well as achieving their goals and critical milestones. Although their struggles are recognised, the supports are often unavailable, difficult to access, or does not meet the need of participants. In my experience working with neurodivergent people, support is not only required to help them achieve their goals but also critical milestones and challenges they may face as they progress through the life stages. As such the intervention most necessary for neurodivergent people focuses on developing knowledge and skills needed for the future. Some examples of the focus in this form of life coaching includes:
Social skills training focusing not only to build a strong interpersonal network but also to overcome social challenges in various environments and settings
Positive habit and routine formation skills necessary to build a strong foundation that enhances an individuals resilience and capacity to achieve what they want in life
Vocational counselling to help neurodivergent individuals to build understanding of themselves and learn to develop and pursue their interests
Stress management education and skills to help address the inevitable emotional distress that comes with making positive changes and capacity building
The suitability of this intervention will be assessed on a case by case basis. Neurodivergent individuals present with a wide array of different challenges and limitations. This form of intervention is not always appropriate for the individual. It is recommended that you reach out to us for a consultation to discuss further.
Therapy and counselling for complex and enduring mental disorders
The challenge when selecting the right intervention for individuals with complex and enduring mental disorders is variety of presentations, strengths, and limitations they possess. In some rare cases, psychotherapy overall is not suitable for certain individuals. When working with participants with these circumstances the process may appear like the following:
Comprehensive clinical assessment to gain a deep understanding of the nature of the condition(s) in addition to the potential limitations to improvements that could occur
Therapy focused on practical day to day problems to enhance quality of life
Risk assessment and management in instances where this is applicable
Ongoing monitoring of condition to ensure wellbeing and safety of each participant
