Skills training and education

HSC/University/Tertiary education skills training and counselling

From my experience working with adolescents and young adults I noticed a recurring theme in their problems which is stress relating to academic goals and pressures. People vary in their reactions and experiences with such endeavours but most of these problems I noticed could be addressed foundationally through the following:

  • to develop essential habits essential for academic and general effectiveness

  • to develop learning skills essential for efficient learning and meeting academic requirements

  • to manage the stress resulting from academic and general life pressure

  • to develop skills essential for self-motivation

If you are looking to alleviate the pressures from general study and academic performance, we can help you by formulating a tailored approach to help you achieve the above.

Parental skills and education for primary school aged children

Children come in all different sizes and shapes, and so it would be reasonable to assume their needs would vary as well. Even amongst siblings, there would be differences regarding their personality, interests, strengths, weaknesses. When children begin primary school, they venture into a world where they aren’t spending as much time in the care of their parents. Environmental factors begin to have an increasing impact on a child’s development, and these changes often make it hard for parents to ‘keep up’ with their kids. For parents we can provide a tailored approach to your and your child’s needs whereby a number of the following points will be addressed in depth:

  • Understanding the various environmental factors that shape and mold your children’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours

  • Helping your child develop effective social and conflict resolution skills

  • Developing effective learning habits

  • Identifying problems with mood and emotional regulation in children, and what you can do about it

  • Understanding the impacts of internet, gaming and general electronic device use

Parental skills and education for adolescent children

When children eventually enter into their adolescent stage, the parental skills and strategies often need to change to adjust to their child’s needs. It is easy to forget or fail to recognise when your child is no longer in their youth and are beginning to emerge into mature adults. Conflicts at home are common amongst many families due to these changes which often go unnoticed. Adolescent children have many challenges they face including but not limited to interpersonal issues, academic issues, communication issues, self-esteem, mood and emotional dysregulation. Some of the things we help parents with regarding their adolescent child are:

  • Developing better understanding of different communication styles and how to have better dialogues with your adolescent children

  • Understanding the common stressors adolescents face inside and outside of school

  • Identifying problems with mood and emotional regulation in adolescents and what you can do about it

  • Helping your adolescent child manage their stress effectively
